Girls Basketball: Pioneers stifle Huskers

Strong defense allowed the Pierz girls basketball team to stay in control in the first half despite early foul trouble, Tuesday.

In the second half, the Pioneers opened things up on offense to take down Holdingford 60-42.

Junior Michaela Rocheleau led the way for Pierz, scoring 18 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

Senior Lindsay Monson and junior Alyssa Boser followed with 12 points apiece.

Monson added 13 rebounds for a double-double and Boser dished out seven assists.

Junior Megan Boser had seven points and six assists, with senior Lisa Langer (6), sophomore Bridget Bednar (4) and junior Elizabeth Tomala (1) rounding out the scoring for Pierz.

The Huskers were led in double figures by sophomore Joelle Ertl (14) and junior Jena Volkers (11).

Sophomore Jodi Middendorf (6), seniors Alisha Brinker (4), Jacqueline Vogt (3) and Erin Mensinger (2) and junior Haley Huls (2) also scored for Holdingford.

The Pioneers controlled the glass, outrebounding the Huskers 34-18.

Pierz plays at Eden Valley-Watkins and Holdingford hosts Kimball Area, Thursday.
