Wrestling: Jarnot takes first, Merten second for Holdingford at Foley Invite

Led by senior 138-pound champion Mike Jarnot, the Holdingford wrestling team finished in a tie for fifth place at the Foley Invite, Jan. 7.

Jarnot pinned his first two opponents before advancing to the finals with a 15-2 major decision.

In the championship match, Jarnot, the top-ranked wrestler at his weight in Class A, took down sixth-ranked St. Cloud Apollo junior Grant Nehring by a score of 6-3.

Sophomore Mitch Messman also reached the finals for the Huskers with three consecutive wins to open the day, placing second.

Sophomores Mitch Merten and Kyle Gerads and freshman Zach Scott added fourth-place finishes.

Holdingford wrestles at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Tuesday.
