Woman receives life-threatening injuries in accident related to ice and slush

An as-yet unnamed woman was injured just before 8 a.m. today, in an accident near the 3300 block of Little Rock Road Northeast near Mayhew Lake Township.

The 48-year-old Sauk Rapids woman was pinned inside the car after losing control of the vehicle and sliding on icy and slushy roads and into a ditch hitting a tree. Deputies and the Sauk Rapids Fire Department and Gold Cross paramedics forced their way into the vehicle prying open the car door to rescue the woman. She was transported from the scene via helicopter by North Air Care to North Memorial Hospital.

According to the report, the victim appeared not to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and alcohol was not involved. The Minnesota State Patrol will assist in the ongoing investigation into the crash.
