Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 13, at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls.
Lucille was born Sept. 16, 1913, in Charter Oak, Iowa, to Margaret Huttendorf Steuart and Stanley Frank Steuart. She attended Long Prairie High School and went on to teach in country schools, first in Stearns County, then in Morrison County near Browerville, Cushing and Little Falls. She was united in marriage to George W. Sprandel on June 23, 1940 in Vale, Iowa. She had twin sons, Dennis and Dorian, then daughter, Cheryl. Lucille was president of the Little Falls Garden Club, and also active in the First Congregational Church, First United Church, Grey Ladies and Brownies/Girl Scouts.
Lucille loved to laugh and tell stories. She loved a cool breeze on the hill at Fishtrap Lake in the heat of summer. Lucille had a great time fishing with her grandchildren. She loved to watch the birds come to her feeders at her kitchen window. Lucille and her husband loved flowers. In her early years, she cross country skied to get around the outlying area. She cut her own grass until she was almost 90, and swam gracefully to cool off at 88. Lucille loved “juicy” novels, read her daily newspapers with her coffee while she listened to her beloved KLTF “Party Line” every morning. She was good at playing nickel slots at Grand Casino Mille Lacs and loved to win. Lucille was very proud of her Steuart/Stewart heritage that went back to Robert the Second, King of Scotland, her ninth great-grandfather. Most of all, she loved her children, especially after her husband passed away and spent as much of her time as she could with them.
Lucille is survived by her son, Dennis S. Sprandel of Holland, Mich.; daughter, Cheryl M. Sprandel of Princeton; granddaughters, Jessica (Nate) Peterson of Bloomington, Christa Sprandel of Charlotte, N.C. and Jenna Sprandel Enneking, also of North Carolina; grandson, Thorin Sprandel of Jinju, South Korea; three great-grandsons, Finn Enneking, Logan Peterson and Ian Sprandel.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Sprandel of Little Falls; son, Dorian G. Sprandel of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and sister, Lamar (Myrt) Steuart Alexander of Little Falls.
