It would have been hard to tell by the final score that the Pierz boys basketball team trailed by seven with 14 minutes to play against Maple Lake, Thursday.

Even though that was the situation, the Pioneers clamped down defensively to outscore the Irish 46-8 down the stretch to record a 68-37 win.

Senior Caleb Janson led Pierz with 19 points and 15 rebounds and was joined in double figures by senior Preston Weber (13) and junior Cullin Carter (11).

Weber also dished out five assists and grabbed four rebounds.

Pierz plays against Rockford Area at St. Cloud State, Tuesday.
