Girls Basketball: Mrozek scores 19 to lead Cardinals over Bulldogs

The Upsala girls basketball team improved to 7-0 in the Prairie Conference with a 77-28 home win over Swanville, Friday.

Senior Kimmy Mrozek led the Cardinals’ powerful offense with 19 points and eight rebounds.

Junior Aimee Pelzer picked up 12 points, five rebounds and five assists, junior Tracy Herzog recorded 11 points and seven rebounds and senior Kaitlyn Wuebkers posted 10 points and eight boards to join Mrozek in double figures.

Senior Donna Ripplinger (8), junior Sadie Welinski (6), freshman Sara Herzog (4), junior Alissa Zehrer (3) and seniors Dawn Evoniuk (2) and Melissa George (2) capped the scoring for Upsala.

George grabbed five rebounds while Ripplinger and Evoniuk each hauled in four.

Swanville was led by junior Marissa Evans with 11 points, senior Molly Jordan with four and junior Chloee Larson with three.

Juniors Tiffany Barthel and Rachel Muhlenkamp, sophomore Nikki Primus and freshmen Danica Hanson and Stephanie Koetter each added two.

Upsala hosts Pine River-Backus, tonight, while Swanville returns to the court with a home game against St. John’s Prep, Thursday.
