Boys Basketball: Brainerd sneaks by Flyers in final second

The Brainerd boys basketball sank two free throws with less than one second to play, Tuesday, halting Little Falls’ winning streak at 10.

With the game tied at 78-78, the Warriors drew a foul on a rebound as time wound down.

In the double bonus, Brainerd made both attempts to pull out an 80-78 come-from-behind win after trailing by eight at halftime at home.

Seniors Matt Valentine and Tom Smith led the Flyers.

Valentine posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Smith accumulated 17 points and five assists.

Junior Collin Eckman (11), sophomore Troy Scott (9), junior Spencer Lubbers (8), senior Grant Bell (7) and juniors Josh Wenzel (5) and Jake Scott (3) also provided offense for Little Falls.

The Flyers climbed into the Class AAA rankings last week at No. 10.

Little Falls returns to Granite Ridge Conference action with a home game against Princeton, Friday.
