The only thing in doubt after the opening minutes of Tuesday’s boys basketball game between Pierz and Rockford Area was whether or not the Pioneers would break the century mark.
While Pierz came up two points short, it still ran right over the Rockets, earning a 98-80 Central Minnesota Conference win.
Leading the fast-paced demolition was senior Caleb Janson, who struck for 36 points and 22 rebounds before being lifted in the final minutes with the game well in hand.
Senior point guard Preston Weber scored 16 points and dished out eight assists to orchestrate much of the attack from the perimeter.
Senior Logan Meyer (15) and junior Cullin Carter (12) also reached double figures.
Senior Dylan Smieja (8), juniors Ben Boser (6) and Josh Templin (2), senior Kevin Mitchell (2) and junior Cole Reardon (1) capped the scoring.
The game was played at Halenbeck Hall at St. Cloud State.
Pierz was scheduled to play at Kimball Area, Friday.
