Girls Basketball: Upsala clamps down in second half, rallies past Pine River-Backus

Clutch free-throw shooting and a shutdown defensive performance in the second half led the Upsala girls basketball to a 51-43 come-from-behind win over Pine River-Backus, Tuesday.

Three players accounted for 48 of the Cardinals’ 51 points.

Junior Aimee Pelzer accumulated 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three blocks to lead Upsala.

Senior Kaitlyn Wuebkers added 14 points and seven rebounds and senior Kimmy Mrozek had 12 points and seven steals.

Junior Tracy Herzog tacked on three points and hauled in six rebounds.

Upsala sank 16 of 18 free throws and limited Pine River-Backus to 15 second-half points after trailing 28-19 at halftime.

The Cardinals host Royalton, Thursday.
