Richard Billmeyer, 77

Richard  Billmeyer, a resident of Little Falls, died Jan. 17, 2012, at Bridgeway Estates in Little Falls.

A Memorial Mass was held Friday, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie with Father Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Richard Billmeyer was born Dec. 23, 1934, in Hillman Township, to the late Theodore and Anna (Huver) Billmeyer. Richard grew up in the Pierz area. As a young man, he worked on his family’s farm and other area farms. He was united in marriage to Karen Faith Poland Sept. 7, 1957, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Onamia. The couple made their home in Freedhem. Richard worked on threshing crews in North Dakota and on the Lake Superior ships. He also worked for Burlington Northern Railroad in the tie yard and as a night watchman. Richard briefly owned and operated the Freedhem General Store with Karen in Freedhem. Karen died Sept. 11, 1973. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Hildegard Barthel  May 31, 1975. The couple made their home in Freedhem, and then Little Falls. He retired from Burlington Northern in 1982. Richard enjoyed woodworking, traveling, weekly card parties, casinos, cards at the West Side Café and visiting with his large extended family.  He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy Billmeyer of Little Falls; children, Julie (Joseph) Lauer of Sartell, Faith (Vince) Pavkovich of Big Lake, Paul (Nancy) Billmeyer of Rice, Dennis (Jeannette) Barthel of Luxemburg, Helen (Harvey) Bloom of Randall, Gerald (Johnnie) Barthel of Staples, Karen (Roger) Harakel of Randall, Donna  (Brad) Beaty of Little Falls and  Rodney (Dahna) Barthel of Blaine; siblings,  Lorraine (Leonard-dc’d) Voigt of Buda, Texas, Ervin (Louise) Billmeyer of Buckman, Doreen (Kenneth-dc’d) Seppelt of Isanti, Donna (Andrew-dc’d) Block of Little Falls and Gerald (Jeanie) Billmeyer of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; 40 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Anna Billmeyer; first wife, Karen Faith Billmeyer, his wife of 16 years; sons, Steven Edward Billmeyer, Eugene Richard Billmeyer and Donald William Barthel; great-great-granddaughter, Bailey Diane Gosiak; siblings, Irene (infant) and Rhinehart (infant), Leona (Lawrence) Hiemenz and Reinhard Billmeyer.
