Girls Basketball: Punishing first half defense lifts Pierz past BBE

The Pierz girls basketball team dominated the first half, then held on in the second, edging Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (BBE) 68-60, Thursday.

Sophomore Bridget Bednar stepped up with 18 points and seven rebounds to lead the Pioneers’ offense.

Juniors Alyssa Boser and Michaela Rocheleau each added 14 points and senior Lindsay Monson recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Also providing offense for Pierz were senior Lisa Langer (4), freshman Kayla Carter (4), junior Elizabeth Tomala (2) and sophomore Tiara Hopkins (2).

The Pioneers improved to 5-1 in the Central Minnesota Conference with the win.

Pierz led 32-11 at halftime.

The Pioneers host Kimball Area, Tuesday.
