Boys Basketball: Pierz shuts down Kimball, sets up clash of CMC unbeatens with BBE
By PATRICK SLACK
The Pierz boys basketball team has already demonstrated it can win games with its offense.
On Friday, the Pioneers used a shutdown defensive effort to produce a victory, limiting host Kimball Area to 28 percent shooting from the field en route to a 62-38 win.
Pierz led 34-22 at halftime, then held the Cubs to just one field goal in the opening 10 minutes of the second half.
“We played a good all-around game tonight,” head coach Danny Saehr said. “We were very pleased with our defensive effort.”
Senior Caleb Janson notched another double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds and senior Preston Weber added 16 points and five rebounds to guide the Pioneers.
Juniors Cullin Carter (7) and Josh Templin (6), seniors Logan Meyer (6) and Dylan Smieja (4) and juniors Ben Boser (1) and Jess Kasper (1) also scored for Pierz.
Junior Mitch Bednar grabbed six rebounds and swatted away four shots.
Pierz remained perfect in the Central Minnesota Conference (CMC) with the win heading into Thursday’s clash at top-ranked Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (BBE).
