The Royalton girls basketball team snapped a five-game skid in resounding fashion, Tuesday, bouncing St. John’s Prep 51-29.

The game was low-scoring throughout the first half, with the visiting Johnnies carrying an 18-16 lead into halftime.

But while the Royalton offense gained steam, St. John’s Prep could not manage much of anything against the Royals’ defense, as Royalton outscored the Johnnies 35-11 in the final 18 minutes.

Senior Megan Wiener scored 14 points and junior Kandy Meyer had 10 to reach double figures for the Royals.

Junior Hannah Fussy (9), seniors Amy Vannurden (7), Bridget Tschida (3), Erika Zimmerman (3) and Allison Popp (2), sophomore Emily Fussy (2) and junior Kalee Petron (1) also provided offense for Royalton.

“In the second half we were able to put together a good combination of players and get some quick baskets,” head coach Jeff Schoenrock said. “We had many good looks in the first half, but the ball wasn’t dropping through the hoop.”

Royalton travels to Osakis, Friday.
