Nordic Skiing: Hauer claims individual crown to lead Flyers to team title at Bemidji Invite

Sophomore Maria Hauer’s individual title led to a first-place team finish for Little Falls girls Nordic skiers at Tuesday’s Bemidji Invite, held in Detroit Lakes.

Hauer posted the top classic (14:53.87) and freestyle (15:10) times to win the overall race by 50 seconds in 30:04.

Junior Chelsea Rutz was the next finisher for the Flyers in fourth (31:23), followed by junior Mattia Hendrickson in seventh (32:30) and sophomore Kaitlin Geisenhof in eighth (32:49).

Juniors Josie Lange (36:37) and Chloe Houle (37:07), eighth graders Claire Gammon-Deering (37:13) and Amelia Kresha (38:14) and junior Kristen Gotfredson (41:53) rounded out the varsity line-up.

In the boys race, senior Preston Zimny placed fifth overall in 26:30 to lead Little Falls to third in the six-team field.

Senior Nathan Almen placed 11th (28:41), junior Brian McNamara came in 13th (29:07) and sophomore Matt Massmann (29:46) earned 15th to also score for the Flyers.

Also competing for Little Falls were junior Isaiah Korver (30:13), sophomore John Gottwalt (30:45), freshmen Michael Carll (32:14) and Levi Hintz (33:11) and sophomore Easton Johnson (34:49).

Little Falls will race at the Granite Ridge Conference meet Thursday, Feb. 2 at a site to be determined.
