Girls Basketball: Pierz tallies 50 points in second half to run away from Foley

An explosive second-half effort sparked a 79-63 win for the Pierz girls basketball team at Foley, Tuesday.

The Pioneers held a slim 29-28 lead at halftime before erupting for 50 points in the closing 18 minutes.

Leading Pierz, which shot 59 percent from the field, in the scoring column was senior Lindsay Monson with 23 points.

Monson also added six rebounds and four steals.

Junior Megan Boser followed with 16 points, while senior Lisa Langer and junior Alyssa Boser netted 10 apiece.

Sophomore Bridget Bednar (8) and juniors Michaela Rocheleau (7) and Elizabeth Tomala (5) rounded out the stellar offensive attack.

“We shot the ball very well tonight,” head coach Rich Teske said. “We made Foley commit a lot of turnovers in the second half.”

Pierz travels to Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted (HLWW), Thursday.

HLWW won the first meeting of the season between these two squads 63-44, Dec. 16.
