Nordic Skiing: Little Falls girls capture Granite Ridge championship

The Little Falls girls Nordic skiers topped Thursday’s four-team field to capture the first-ever Granite Ridge Conference championship.

The Flyers won all three events at the meet.

Junior Mattia Hendrickson took first in the six-kilometer race, sophomore Maria Hauer won the sprint and the quartet of Hendrickson, junior Chelsea Rutz, sophomore Kaitlin Geisenhof and Hauer won the relay.

Geisenhof also placed third in the 6K and Rutz earned third in the sprint to join Hendrickson and Hauer with two all-conference awards.

In the boys race, senior Nathan Almen led the Flyers to a second-place finish by placing second in the 6K race.

Senior Preston Zimny followed right behind Almen in third as the duo each took home all-conference honors.

Sophomore Mathew Massman was Little Falls’ top placer in the sprint, taking fifth.

Little Falls is scheduled to compete at the Section 8A meet in Detroit Lakes, Tuesday.
