Boys Basketball: Weber scores 1,000th point as Pierz routs Holdingford
By PATRICK SLACK
It took 17 years before the sixth Pierz boys basketball player reached 1,000 career points.
The wait for the seventh wasn’t quite as long.
Just three days after senior teammate Caleb Janson did so against Eden Valley-Watkins, Jan. 31, senior Preston Weber scored his 1,000th-career point against Holdingford, Friday.
Steve Kimman was the last player to reach 1,000 points for Pierz in 1995.
The clinching shot came on a three with 3:21 to play in the first half, in the middle of a 45-9 run by Pierz to open the game.
The Pioneers then cruised through the closing 18 minutes, recording a 74-29 win.
Janson finished the night with 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Weber ended up with 15 points.
Senior Logan Meyer also reached double figures with 13 points.
Juniors Jess Kasper (7), Ben Boser (6), Josh Templin (4), Cullin Carter (3), Jon Fuhrman (3) and Mitch Bednar (2) and seniors Ben Huffman (2), Michael Marshik (1) and Devaunte Stumpf (1) rounded out the scoring for Pierz.
Junior Beau Maciej had five points and junior Alex Hiltner and sophomore Cody Bialka each added four for the Huskers.
