Santorum wins Morrison County straw poll with two-thirds of the vote; wins Minnesota with nearly 45 percent

Of the 309 people attending the Republican precinct caucuses Tuesday, two-thirds – or 198 voted in the straw poll for Rick Santorum as the Republican presidential nominee. Ron Paul received 73 votes; Mitt Romney – 22 and Newt Gingrich – 16.

Statewide, Santorum received 21,495 votes for 44.84 percent; Paul came in second with 13,039 votes for 27.20 percent; Romney was third with 8,108 votes – 16.91 percent and Gingrich came in last with 5,157 votes for 10.75 percent.

“We had a good turnout for Republican Caucuses. Delegates and alternates were elected. They will attend the Morrison County Convention on March 3, as we move through to the next step in the political process. Resolutions were discussed and submitted. Rep. Mike LeMieur and Sen. Paul Gazelka spoke at the Little Falls High School location. Letters and campaign materials from elected officials and candidates were available. The Young Republican (YR) group was introduced and Joshua Schwab, the YR Chairperson addressed the attendees at the Little Falls High School,” said Patty Wilczek, Morrison County Republican Party chairperson.
