Boys Basketball: Upsala slips past St. John’s Prep 71-65

After suffering a narrow loss to eighth-ranked Browerville in its previous game, the Upsala boys basketball team got right back in the win column, Thursday.

The Cardinals took a 33-26 lead into halftime, then outlasted host St. John’s Prep in the second half to prevail 71-65.

Junior Garrett Wolf was the leader offensively for Upsala, pouring in 19 points, followed closely by sophomore Christian Pekarek with 17.

Juniors Matt Abeler and Nick Frieler added nine and eight points, respectively, with senior Thomas Ripplinger (6), juniors Andy Nelson (5), Eric Frieler (4) and Avery Smieja (2) and sophomore Dylan Zimmerman (1) rounding out the scoring.
