Weekend sports recap

Boys Basketball: Little Falls 71, Becker 41

The Flyers got a taste of the big leagues, Saturday, storming past Becker 71-41 at Target Center in Minneapolis.

Tom Smith led Little Falls offensively with 16 points, followed in double figures by Josh Wenzel (11) and Collin Eckman (10).

Matt Valentine (8), Grant Bell (7), Troy Scott (6), Jake Scott (5), Spencer Lubbers (4), Darin Fellbaum (2) and Sebastian Sowada (2) rounded out the scoring.

Valentine grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds and Lubbers hauled in 10.


Girls Basketball: Upsala 53, Osakis 45

Upsala all but wrapped up the Prairie Conference championship, Friday, outlasting Osakis 53-45.

The Cardinals stormed out of the gates with a 13-2 run, fueled by a trio of three-pointers by Aimee Pelzer.

However, the Silverstreaks got right back in it, seizing a 20-17 lead late in the first half, before Upsala went on a 9-2 run to go into the break ahead 26-22.

Pelzer finished the night with a team-high 24 points.

Kailtyn Wuebkers followed with 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Kimmy Mrozek added nine points and Tracy Herzog chipped in four.


Gymnastics: Little Falls placed third at Granite Ridge Conference meet

Rachelle LeBlanc garnered the first-ever Granite Ridge Conference all-around championship, Saturday, taking the crown with a score of 36.6.

LeBlanc earned event wins on floor exercise (9.6) and beam (9.2) and placed second on bars (8.8).

Carly Atkinson also placed in the top 10 on beam, earning eighth (8.375).

Sarah Stout finished in 13th in the all-around (30.925).


Wrestling: Aitkin 57, Royalton-Upsala 18

The Royals fell 57-18 versus Aitkin in their final dual of the regular season, Saturday.

Andy Poster and Cory Wensmann recorded falls for Royalton-Upsala, while Shawn Urbanski and Mitch Lange also won with decisions.

Lange came out on top 4-2 in a match-up of ranked wrestlers at 160 with a last-second reversal.


Boys Basketball: Braham 76, Pierz 62

The Pioneers kept it close against the second top-ranked team they have faced this season, but fell 76-62 at Braham, Saturday.


Girls Basketball: Pierz 68, Holdingford 43

Pierz remained in second place in the Central Minnesota Conference with a 68-43 road win over Holdingford, Friday.

The Pioneers are now 8-3 in the CMC.


Girls Basketball: Royalton 63, Swanville 47

The Royals earned their second win of the season over Swanville, Friday, prevailing 63-47 at Swanville.

Royalton moved to 7-5 in the Prairie Conference with the victory.


Girls Hockey: North Wright County 13, Brainerd-Little  Falls 0

Top-seeded North Wright County eliminated Brainerd-Little Falls from the Section 8AA playoffs with a 13-0 win in Saturday’s quarterfinal game in Monticello.
