The Royalton boys basketball team’s defense flustered West Central Area  throughout Friday’s Prairie Conference battle, coming away with a 56-48 win.

The Royals pushed their lead to as many as 22 points in the second half before easing to the victory.

Junior Luke Wentland was the leading scorer for Royalton, draining 16 points while grabbing eight rebounds.

Junior Matt Silbernick scored 13 points and senior Tyler Makela had 11 to also reach double figures.

Seniors Steve Hoff (5), Dan Anshus (4), Jeremy Grittner (3) and Curtis Makela (2) and junior Justin Opatz (2) also scored.

“Our team defense was the best it has been in weeks,” head coach Randy Thielges said. “This is how we need to play if we want to win once playoffs begin.”

Royalton hosts Swanville tonight.
