Boyer charged with theft; faces 10 years in prison

Katherine Lynn Boyer, 19, Royalton, was charged by Morrison County Attorney Brian Middendorf and his staff with one count of theft: taking, using, and/or transferring movable property without consent.

On Oct. 22, 2011, the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a theft from a residence. A woman told officers her daughter, Boyer, allegedly stole a laptop computer ($800), a Nintendo Wii gaming system ($600), $9,500 in cash, a Magnum handgun and multiple pieces of jewelry, valued at more than $1,000.

The victim said she thought Boyer traveled to California with her boyfriend, and had no authority to remove any of the items from her house.

The automated pawn system told officers Boyer had pawned the laptop computer, Wii system and some jewelry in St. Cloud.

On Feb. 7, Boyer went to the Sheriff’s Office allegedly saying she stole the items from her mother’s residence and did pawn some in St. Cloud. She said she needed the money.

Boyer allegedly denied taking the handgun or the cash.

If convicted, Boyer faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and/or a $20,000 fine.
