Boys Basketball: 10th-ranked LPGE breaks halftime tie to escape Royalton

The Royalton boys basketball team matched up with its second ranked opponent in as many games, falling 51-40 against Class AA’s 10th-ranked Long Prairie-Grey Eagle (LPGE), Tuesday.

The Royals matched up evenly with the visiting Thunder throughout the first half, going into the break tied 22-22.

However, LPGE collected 11 offensive rebounds in the closing 18 minutes to slowly pull away for the win.

“Both teams played very solid defense, but the difference was the number of second-chance opportunities LPGE got in the second half,” Royalton head coach Randy Thielges said.

Senior Steve Hoff scored 14 points and junior Luke Wentland contributed 11 points and six assists to lead the Royals.

Royalton plays at Onamia, Friday.
