Shawn Killeaney, 22

Shawn Michael Killeaney, a resident of Bemidji, formerly of Ft. Ripley and Little Falls, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Feb. 25, at at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls, with Father Mark Innocenti officiating. Burial was in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Belle Prairie.

Shawn Michael Killeaney was born Aug. 3, 1989, in Little Falls, to Jill (Hopwood) and Michael Killeaney. Shawn was raised in Little Falls and graduated from Little Falls Community High School in 2008. Shawn was currently attending Bemidji State University and was enrolled in the criminal justice program. He enjoyed his various jobs throughout his life: Coborn’s Grocery, Morrison County Courthouse maintenance, Eagles Landing Golf Course, Madden’s, Scotty’s Log Bar, Falls Bar, Bemidji State University maintenance, Bemidji Boys and Girls Club and, most recently, with the Northwestern Minnesota Juvenile Center as a corrections staff in Bemidji. Shawn had completed his internship with the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office in the summer of 2011. Shawn enjoyed fishing, bow fishing, watching hockey and playing intramural hockey, tubing, jet skiing, golfing and hanging out with his friends. He enjoyed deer hunting with his brother and grandparents. Shawn was a passionate waterfowl hunter traveling throughout Minnesota and the Dakotas.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Jill Killeaney (Jeff Guith) of Fort Ripley; brother, Trevor Killeaney of Duluth; girlfriend, Katie Johnson of Little Falls; Marcus Guith and Madilyn Guith of St. Cloud; grandparents, Manvel and Marlene Hopwood of Royalton, Larry (Ardell) Killeaney of Little Falls and Jeanette Killeaney of Little Falls; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Killeaney; grandparents, Eugene and Regina Popp and Peggy and Alex Yourcek.

Honorary casketbearers were the Little Falls Community High School class of 2008 and the Bemidji State University students. Casketbearers were Trevor Killeaney, Michel Wetzel Jr., Mitch LeBlanc, Cory Maus, Mike Lovejoy, Collin Backowski, Derek Johnson and Bob Killeaney.
