Wrestling: Five area individuals place
Holdingford senior Mike Jarnot led five area placers with a third-place finish in the Class A 138-pound weight class at the state tournament, Saturday.
Jarnot finished the tournament with three major decisions and two falls and also avenged his only loss in the third-place match.
Pierz senior Nathan Tomala and Little Falls senior Dillon Kifer each earned fifth place and Royalton-Upsala senior Andy Poster and Holdingford freshman Zach Scott took sixth.
Girls Basketball: Upsala lone area survivor
Upsala throttled Walker Hackensack 77-47 Saturday to advance to the Sub-Section 5A West championship game.
The Cardinals will face off against Sebeka, which eliminated Upsala from last year’s playoffs, Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at a site to be determined.
Boys Basketball: Flyers, Pioneers narrowly miss in conference action
Little Falls nearly avenged an earlier loss to St. Cloud Cathedral, falling 81-78 at home Friday, while Pierz lost 73-64 versus top-ranked Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa.
Boys Hockey: Quarterfinal pairing set
Little Falls will take on second-seeded St. Thomas Academy in the Class A state quarterfinals, Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
