Boys Basketball: Pekarek’s buzzer-beater lifts Upsala over Royalton

The Royalton boys basketball team had a six-point lead in the second half, Thursday.

But after Upsala stole a pair of rebounds off of free throws to erase the lead, sophomore Christian Pekarek hit a shot to beat the buzzer, giving the Cardinals a 61-59 win.

Juniors Nick Frieler and Garrett Wolf and sophomore Dylan Zimmerman each netted 10 points to lead Upsala, with juniors Matt Abeler and Avery Smieja each adding nine.

Senior Steve Hoff tallied a game-high 19 points to lead Royalton.

Senior Tyler Makela posted nine points and eight assists and junior Matt Silbernick accumulated eight points and eight rebounds.
