Girls Basketball: Royalton defeats Northland, falls to 10th-ranked Isle in section playoffs

The Royalton girls basketball team overpowered Northland before having its season end against Isle in the Section 5A playoffs.

Royalton 69, Northland 43

The Royals opened the postseason with a 69-43 home win over Northland, Feb. 22.

Five Royals scored at least nine points in the game, led by junior Kalee Petron with 12.

Seniors Amy Vannurden and Megan Wiener and junior Kandy Meyer each contributed 10 and sophomore Emily Fussy added nine.

Seniors Bridget Tschida and Erika Zimmerman and junior Hannah Fussy each chipped in five in the winning effort.

Isle 90, Royalton 61

After topping Northland, Royalton drew Isle, the top seed in the East Sub-Section at McGregor.

The 10th-ranked Huskies handed the Royals a 90-61 setback, bringing Royalton’s season to a close.

Royalton finished the season with a record of 12-14.

Seniors on this year’s team included Vannurden, Wiener, Tschida, Zimmerman, Kathy Hohmann, Kelsey Petron, Allison Popp and Heather Tiemann.
