Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church in Rice and one hour prior to the services Friday. Church prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids.
Gary was born March 5, 1945, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Wilbur and Esther (Anderson) Gummert. He served his country in the Vietnam War. Gary married Kathleen Bemboom, Sept. 21, 1968, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Mayhew Lake. He worked for Robel Beef Packing for 21 years and then later opened his own welding business, Gary’s Welding and Repair. Gary was a member of Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of St. Cloud East Side VFW Post 4847. He enjoyed restoring tractors, fishing, cutting hay, spending time with family, remodeling his children’s homes, working with his son Robert on his hobby farm and most of all working in his shop with his boys.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Kathy of Sauk Rapids; sons and daughters, Robert (Kimberly) of Sauk Rapids, Brian (Reneé) of Royalton, Julie (Moussa) Kaba of Sauk Rapids, Jenny (Ryan) Goebel of Freeport, Melissa (Jeff Budnick) Gummert of Little Falls, Jamie (Missy) of St. Stephen and Sarah Beth (Travis Johnson) Gummert of Sartell; mother, Esther of Garwin, Iowa; brothers, Dennis (Cindy), Dave, and Richard (Linda) all of Garwin, Iowa; and his grandchildren, Katelyn, Kali, Kira, Hannah, Shelby, Emily, Moriah, Haylee, Colton, Jack, Bridget, Carson, and Spike.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur; mother-in-law, Marie Bemboom; and nephew, Tony.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
