A strong shooting night helped Sartell-St. Stephen knock off the top-seeded Little Falls boys basketball team 71-63 in Tuesday’s Section 8AAA quartefinals.
The visiting Sabres shot 47 percent from the field, including 57 percent from inside the three-point line, and held the Flyers to 31 percent.
Seniors Matt Valentine and juniors Collin Eckman and Jake Scott led Little Falls with 12 points apiece, while senior Grant Bell chipped in 11.
Valentine also had 15 rebounds to post a double-double.
Senior Tom Smith had seven points and five assists, junior Josh Wenzel scored seven points and sophomore Troy Scott added two points.
The Flyers finished the season with a record of 19-7, reaching the top 10 in the rankings on multiple occasions.
Seniors on this year’s team included Smith, Bell, Valentine, Aaron Hallberg and Darin Fellbaum.
