The Upsala girls basketball team moved within one victory of a trip to the state tournament Tuesday with a 64-57 triumph over Sebeka in the Sub-Section 5A West championship at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle.

The win over the Trojans, who defeated the Cardinals in this game a year ago, sets up a section final showdown with Isle. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Crosby-Ironton.

The trio of senior Kaitlyn Wuebkers and juniors Tracy Herzog and Aimee Pelzer sparked the win for Upsala.

Pelzer put up 17 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, while Herzog and Wuebkers each scored 14 points and teamed up for 15 rebounds.

Senior Donna Ripplinger and junior Sadie Welinski each contributed seven points and senior Kimmy Mrozek added five.

Ripplinger also pulled down eight rebounds.

The game was deadlocked 25-25 at halftime, but Upsala managed to outplay and outscore Sebeka 39-32 in the second half to come away with the win.
