Presler places fifth at Division III wrestling nationals

Ben Presler has his hand raised after winning his fifth-place match at 125 pounds in the NCAA Division III national wrestling tournament in La Crosse, Wis., March 10. Presler graduated from Royalton High School in 2008 and was a senior on this year's Concordia-Moorhead team.

Ben Presler, a Royalton High School graduate and senior on the Concordia-Moorhead wrestling team, placed fifth at the Division III national tournament, March 9 – 10, earning his first All-American award.

Presler, who was unseeded entering the national meet, started the tournament by dominating eighth-ranked Stephen Hinton. Presler posted a 17-0 technical fall to earn a spot in the quarterfinals. He then lost a close 9-6 decision to top-ranked Nathan Fitzenreider of North Central.

Presler started the wrestleback portion by pinning Brandon Gauthier of Rhode Island College. He then posted a 10-2 major decision over Charlie Frankel of Delaware Valley to clinch All-American honors. Presler lost 5-0 in the wrestleback semifinals before coming back to record a 3-0 win over third-ranked Jimmy Gotto of Coe in the fifth-place match. Presler won 33 matches in his final two seasons.
