Al Doty, a resident of Royalton, announced March 10, that he will seek the DFL endorsement and run for State Senate in the newly-created District 9. Senate District 9 covers most of Morrison County, all of Todd County and portions of Cass and Wadena counties.
Doty has served this area for more than 40 years as teacher, coach and senior advocate.
“I have the education, training, and experience to do the job well and I have extensive experience and relationships in this district to help me do the job right,” said Doty. “I’m asking for a chance to go to work for this area again, as your state senator.”
Doty currently serves on the Camp Ripley Citizens Advisory Board, the Royalton City Council, and the Board of Directors of Pine Grove Zoo. He also represented Morrison and Crow Wing Counties in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2007-2010.
“Our Legislature needs to work on long-term solutions for difficult issues, especially those affecting rural areas and middle class working families,” Doty said. “We cannot continue to push these problems down the road. It’s time for real solutions to get Minnesota moving again.”
Doty is currently living in Royalton with his wife, Donna. He grew up on the family grain and beef farm. After graduating from high school in Campbell, he attended the University of Minnesota-Morris where he earned majors in political science, history and social studies and later earned a graduate degree in history at the University of Manitoba.
After retirement from teaching, Doty was hired by Horizon Health as a senior advocate serving Morrison and Crow Wing counties. He continued to work as senior advocate until he was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives.
