Family Medical Center, St. Gabriel’s Hospital to sponsor women’s health expo

The Family Medical Center and St. Gabriel’s Hospital are teaming up to sponsor a women’s health expo Thursday, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital. Dr. Susan Okoniewski, MD, left, and Dr. Harnath Holmes, MD, both board-certified OB/GYNs, work with women and their health through Family Medical Center and St. Gabriel’s Hospital. Both will be on hand during the event.

Family Medical Center and St. Gabriel’s Hospital are teaming up to sponsor “Spring into Health: Women’s Health Expo,” from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29, on the first floor of St. Gabriel’s Hospital.

The event features annual screening exams and mammograms, presentations on diet and exercise, massages, manicures, reflexology, prize drawings and refreshments. Women interested in the screening exams or mammography will need to schedule an appointment. A courtesy RSVP for participation in the other activities is requested. Both can be accomplished by calling the Family Medical Center at (320) 631-7000.

Susan Okoniewski, MD, an obstetrician and gynecologist (OB/GYN), said the event offers something for everyone.

“The purpose of the event is to give women a chance to get their annual screening physicals and mammograms done at one time and also to provide some education and fun at the same time,” Okoniewski said.

“Today’s women typically have a lot going on in their lives and sometimes they don’t take time for themselves,” she said. “We wanted this event to allow them the opportunity to focus on their health and, at the same time, learn a little more about all the resources we have available at Family Medical Center and St. Gabriel’s Hospital to serve their needs.”

Three presentations will be offered, along with many interactive booths. The presentations will include a discussion of women’s health and preventative care by Andrea Athmann-Luksik, CFNP, a nurse practitioner at Family Medical Center; a presentation on nutrition by Jan Korzeniowski, RD, LD, CDE, a registered and licensed dietitian and certified diabetes educator; and the benefits of exercise for women by Stephanie Nilsen, PT, a physical therapist at St. Gabriel’s Hospital. Participants may attend any or all of the presentations.

For more information, or to register for the event, call the Family Medical Center at (320) 631-7000.
