All-Central Minnesota Conference (CMC) junior Dustin Herold returns to lead the Pierz boys golf team into a new season with a new coach.
Chris Dobis takes over for retired former coach Leo Pohlkamp, promising plenty of competition for the six varsity spots.
“Each golfer will start with a clean slate and have to prove their spot on the team,” Dobis said. “I expect them to compete day in and day out.”
Sophomore Evan Woitalla placed 11th in the CMC last season, while seniors Kyle Fuhrman and Michael Meyer round out the group of returning starters.
Graduating from last year’s team were Brandon Meyer and Nicholas Gangl.
Seniors on this year’s team included Meyer, Fuhrman and Stephen Munroe.
The Pioneers placed fourth in the CMC last season, but will aim to finish at the top of the conference this season while also improving its section rank.
“We will focus on all aspects of the game throughout practice this year and try and carry those over to each match,” Dobis said.
Pierz opens the season with a CMC meet at Kimball, April 12.
