Callahan sentenced 39 months for second degree criminal sexual conduct
Brian Patrick Callahan was sentenced to 39 months in prison following his conviction for criminal sexual conduct in the Second Degree. Callahan, 44, of Mora, was sentenced by Judge Douglas P. Anderson Wednesday, in the Morrison County District Court in Little Falls. He had pleaded guilty Feb. 22.
Assistant Morrison County Attorney Todd Kosovich said that Callahan was also ordered to register as a predatory offender and will serve a 10-year period of conditional release under the jurisdiction of the Commissioner of Corrections. That 10-year period will not begin until the day he is released from prison.
The case began in 2011, when Mille Lacs County Social Services learned of a 2006 assault on a then 11-year-old child. Investigation revealed that the sexual assault occurred in Morrison County. A Morrison County sheriff’s deputy completed the investigation.
Morrison County County Attorney Brian Middendorf said that studies show that as many as 75 percent of children that are abused report nothing to parents or police in the first year after the abuse. Some never report abuse at all. “It is comforting that this child was willing to come forward and that after all these years we were able to secure justice for that child,” he said.
