Softball: Royalton opens season by blanking St. John’s 30-0, topping West Central 17-1

The Royalton softball team annihilated St. John’s Prep and West Central Area by a combined score of 47-1 in Friday’s season-opening home tri.

In the opener, the Royals shut out St. John’s 30-0, with senior Amy Vannurden tossing a no-hitter on the mound.

Sophomore Jacquline Nichols led Royalton offensively with three hits, two runs and two RBIs.

Senior Allison Popp added a pair of hits and crossed the plate four times.

In the nightcap, Royalton topped West Central 17-1 before darkness brought a merciful early ending to the contest.

Vannurden and freshman Haley Olson handled the pitching duties, with neither allowing a hit.

Popp went 3-for-3 with a triple, home run and four RBIs.

Royalton plays at St. John’s Prep this afternoon.
