Funeral services for Merl R. Fletcher were held Monday, April 2, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cushing with Bob Mueller officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.
Merl was born July 13, 1947 in Crosby, the son of the late Ronald and Aileen Fletcher. The family moved to Browerville, when Merl was a young boy. He grew up and attended school in Browerville graduating from Browerville High School in 1965. He entered the United States Army in 1968 and served until his honorable discharge in 1972. Merl was united in marriage to Marge G. Skinner, July 5, 1975, in Sisseton, S.D. He was employed by the Banta Printing Company in Long Prairie, as a lithographer for 34 years, retiring in 2004. Merl was a fix-it type of guy. He enjoyed working on cars and going to auto shows in the summer. He also enjoyed fishing, reading history books, working in his garage and taking care of their home. Merl also enjoyed country music, especially Alan Jackson. For the last five years, he was employed part time as well as volunteering at the Camp Ripley Military Museum.
Merl is survived by his loving wife, Marge; daughter, Melissa (David) Brown of Hillman; sons, Mike (Jill) Olson of Long Prairie and Eric (Kim) Olson of Lowry; grandchildren, Jessica and Brittany Green, Kyle Marty, Ashley, Bo, Brianna and Mara Olson; brother, Dean Fletcher of Emily; sisters, Diane Nathe of Albany, Connie (Fabrizio) Fedrizzi of Bettendorf, Iowa and Vicky (significant other, Tom Geer)Hanson of Deerwood.
Merl was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Aileen Fletcher.
