Little Falls couple one of six chosen to receive 2012 Jefferson Award

For 2012, Al and Carol Barthel of Little Falls have been chosen as one of six nominees to receive the Jefferson Award. The Jefferson Awards are a prestigious national recognition system honoring community and public service in America and are presented at local and national levels.

Locally, honorees are selected from nominations of ordinary people who accomplish extraordinary achievements without expectation of recognition or reward. The recipients of national awards are selected from the local levels and represent a cross-section of truly outstanding Americans.

Other Jefferson Award winners include: Larry Johnson of Appleton, Ruth Johnson of Kensington, Dick Kuehn of Alexandria, Maryann Maameri of Alexandria and Kathy Young of Alexandria.

The 2012 Honorable Mention recipients are: Tracy Beaman of Bertha, Mary Faith of Chokio, Denise Harris of Alexandria, Shirley Hart of Miltona, Curt Janke of Alexandria, Lana Krafthefer of Holmes City, Connie McCain of Pennock, Wes Nelson of Ashby and David Schonrock of Baxter.

The Jefferson Awards were created to recognize volunteers from high school students through senior citizens. The Junior Jefferson Awards were created in 2011 to recognize the youths of today who give of their time to support their community. Only individuals are considered for nominations, but couples who work together as a team can be nominated.

KSAX/KRWF-TV Meteorologist Mark Anthony will be joining anchor Laurie Stribling as host of the 2012 Jefferson Awards Gala for nominees and their families Thursday, April 19 at the Broadway Ballroom in Alexandria.

Tickets are available for this event at the KSAX-TV office.
