With five runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh, the Swanville softball team blew open a close game to notch a 12-7 road win at Eagle Valley, Tuesday, in its Prairie Conference opener.

The Bulldogs slugged 16 hits in the win, led by seniors Molly Jordan and Vickie Maciej and junior Marissa Evans with three apiece.

Jordan doubled, tripled and scored four runs, Maciej hit a pair of doubles and Evans added a double and three runs.

Junior Tiffany Barthel and freshman Simone Grittner each had two hits, with senior Lexi Loven, junior Abbey Schultz and sophomore Ashley Maciej collecting the other hits.

Loven earned the complete-game win, allowing only two hits in the first six innings.

The Rebels picked up six unearned runs after a two-out error in the bottom of the seventh to make the final score appear closer than the game was.

“Our defense played a solid game, making a number of great plays,” Swanville head coach Tom Bzdok said. “Our bats really came to life in the sixth and seventh innings, collecting 10 hits in those two innings. Both offensively and defensively the entire team played a really good game.”

Swanville hosts Browerville, Friday.
