Herold leads Pioneers boys at Kimball
The Pierz girls golf team opened its season by hosting the first Central Minnesota Conference (CMC) meet, Thursday, finishing fourth out of seven teams competing.
Senior Anna Poster and freshman Jessica Hawks paced the Pioneers, each firing a round of 44.
The score put the duo in a tie for fourth place individually, five shots off the medalist.
Senior Beth Woitalla and junior Katie Kowalzek scored for Pierz as well, each shooting 56.
Sophomore Grace Duxbury (69) and eighth graders Cassie Virnig (75) and Kayla Wacker (76) rounded out the line-up.
“It’s great to see the team perform at this level for our first match,” Pierz girls head coach Steve Holbrook said. “With the work we’re doing at practice, we can only improve.”
The Pierz girls play at Maple Lake, Tuesday.
Boys CMC meet
Junior Dustin Herold turned in a score of 46 to lead the Pioneers boys team in its CMC opener at Kimball, Thursday.
Senior Michael Meyer and sophomore Evan Woitalla followed closely with rounds of 51, with sophomore Matt Athman also contributing to the team score with a 52.
Senior Kyle Fuhrman shot a 56, freshman Josh Rocheleau had a 58 and junior Alex Hayes had a 61 for the Pioneers.
The Pierz boys play at Osakis, Monday, and at Rockford, Friday.
