Groundbreaking for Staples railroad overpass project set for April 20
A ceremony to celebrate the groundbreaking for the Staples North/South Corridor with Railroad Overpass Project will take place Friday, April 20, at 2 p.m., on the project site adjacent to Second Avenue.
The ceremony will involve U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson as well as representatives from the Federal Highway Administration, Todd County and the city of Staples.
The North/South Corridor with Railroad Overpass Project will construct a two-lane north/south collector (urban and rural) roadway and a bridge over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad and U.S. Highway 10 in Staples. The bridge and roadway will incorporate a 10 foot pedestrian/bicycle trail for the entire length of the project. The Overpass Project received a $7.65 million federal TIGER II grant.
Construction was scheduled to begin Monday, April 16. and continue through November 2012.
