Senior Tom Ripplinger allowed just one hit and no walks and the Upsala-Swanville Area (USA) baseball team’s bats came to life late in a 10-0 win at Royalton, Tuesday.
Ripplinger pounded the strike zone and struck out six batters to notch the win.
Royalton remained within reach early, giving up only single runs in the first and fourth innings.
But USA extended its lead with four runs in the fifth inning before sealing the win with four more in the sixth.
Juniors Andy Nelson and Nick Frieler each went 2-for-4 for USA and junior Brock Cichon reached base three times and scored twice to lead the Patriots.
Junior Colten Kruzel scored twice, sophomore Eric Lampert knocked in a pair and sophomore Christian Pekarek squeezed in a run to also provide support for Ripplinger.
“This should be a real confidence boost for Tom,” USA head coach Ken Solarz said. “What I was real impressed with is no walks.”
USA plays at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Thursday, and Royalton plays at West Central Area, Saturday.
