Kevin Maurer announced that he will once again seek the county commissioner’s seat in Morrison County’s District 1. It includes the cities of Randall, Motley, Little Falls (Ward 3) and townships of Motley, Scandia Valley, Rosing, Cushing, Darling and Green Prairie.
Maurer is a lifelong resident of Morrison County, growing up in Little Falls and graduating from Little Falls Community High School in 1973. After graduating from licensed practical nursing school at Brainerd College in 1978, he worked at St. Gabriel’s Hospital and then St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz, while obtaining a degree in natural resources from Brainerd College. Following completion of his degree he worked for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources as a firefighter and natural resources technician, leaving this position to attend school at Fergus Falls State Hospital, majoring in chemical dependency counseling.
He has been employed as a licensed alcohol and drug counselor for more than 27 years, working with residents of Morrison County. Past work experience includes more than 13 1/2 years at Morrison County Social Services, 5 1/2 years at Northern Pine Mental Health Center and 5 1/2 years at Crow Wing county Detox. He is currently self-employed in private practice.
Maurer is married to his wife, Julie Kuchinski. They have two children, Dustin who is employed at the Cushing Post Office and Morrison County and Shauna who is a student at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. They live in Cushing Township, where they purchased 80 acres in 1988 and completed their log home in 1996.
Maurer was a member of the Soo Line Trail Development Committee, Meth Development Task Force and HOPE Coalition which developed youth prevention and education programs.
