Holdingford scored a pair of early runs to take a 2-0 lead into the fifth inning of what started as a pitchers duel at Pierz, Monday.
Then, both offense erupted, resulting in a frenetic back-and-forth finish that ended with Pierz walking off with an 8-7 triumph in eight innings in a rematch of last year’s sub-section championship.
The Pioneers put up six runs in the fifth to go ahead 6-2, but Holdingford rallied with three in the sixth and one in the seventh to force extra innings.
After the Huskers took the lead with another run in the top of the eighth, the Pioneers answered with four hits and a walk to bring in sophomore Tiara Hopkins to tie it, then senior Sam Litke dashed home on a passed ball with the game-winning run.
Litke went 3-for-4 and junior Megan Boser doubled, homered and drove in three runs to lead Pierz at the plate.
Junior Elizabeth Tomala added a double and two RBIs and junior Miranda Woitalla also drove in a run.
Hopkins earned the win on the mound, while junior Sara Schlegel recorded four putouts and an assist behind the plate.
Senior Allison Meagher and junior Haley Huls each went 3-for-4 and scored twice to lead the Huskers.
