Theresia was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Royalton, the daughter of Isidore and Rose (Janski) Schlichting. She attended school through the 10th grade and then worked on her parents’ farm and cleaned houses. She was united in marriage to Joseph A. Fussy in a double ring ceremony with her sister, Margaret and Joseph’s brother, Peter Fussy, Oct. 12, 1937, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton. The couple had four children, Alois, Clarence, Arlene and Karen. Theresia has lived in Royalton all of her life where she raised her children and farmed with her husband. She and Joe purchased and lived on his mother’s farm for eight years. They lived in Royalton for one year owning the Royalton Produce from 1946-1950. They then purchased a hobby farm and a 360 acre farm. Joe died in 1960 in a work-related accident and Theresia continued living on the farm. Theresia was a homemaker, worked in cleaning services at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, cooked for Royalton School from 1964-1974, worked at Jerry’s Café and Treasure City in Royalton, and picked eggs in her son’s chicken barn from 1974-1983. She sold the farm in 1980 and lived in two apartment complexes in Royalton and in 2006, moved to Riverside Assisted Living. Theresia enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, quilting, cooking, baking, gardening, canning, bowling on the Senior League, birthday club and playing cards and bingo. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, St. Kathryn Mission, Royalton Senior Center, the Daughters of Isabella and did a lot of volunteering. Theresia treasured her family, adoring the little ones and was so proud of the big ones. She was a “social butterfly” and touched so many lives in the community and church she loved.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Alois “Sam” (Arlene) Fussy of Royalton, Clarence (Paula) Fussy of Amery, Wis., Arlene (Roger) Stanek of Little Falls and Karen (Gary) Sobiech of Brooklyn Park; 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; siblings, Evelyn Krystosek of Holdingford and Bernice (Claude) Wollack of Duluth and many nieces, nephews and friends.
