Softball: Late rally allows CMC leader Maple Lake to sweep Pierz

Pierz squared off in a doubleheader at Central Minnesota Conference (CMC) leader Maple Lake, Thursday, dropping a pair.

After falling 10-0 in the opener, the Pioneers took a 1-0 lead into the seventh in the finale.

But the Irish scored a run to force extra innings and then picked up two in the eighth for a 3-1 come-from-behind win.

Junior Sara Schlegel had two hits and junior Elizabeth Tomala added one in the first game.

Junior Megan Boser collected each of Pierz’ hits in the second game, including a homer that accounted for the Pioneers’ only run.

Sophomore Tiara Hopkins went the distance on the mound in each game, scattering nine hits in the finale.
