After nine innings of play, the Upsala-Swanville Area (USA) baseball team and 17th-ranked St. John’s Prep were still deadlocked at 2-2 in their Prairie Conference battle, Monday.

But after a leadoff triple finally ended the brilliant performance turned in by USA sophomore starter Eric Lampert, the visiting Johnnies  strung together five more hits in the top of the 10th to come away with a 7-2 road win.

Junior Brock Cichon went 3-for-4 with a run and a stolen base to lead the Patriots.

Senior Derek Pfeiffer and junior Alec Griffith each contributed a pair of hits and sophomore Eric Lampert drew four walks.

Lampert scattered nine hits and struck out three without issuing a walk in nine innings of work.

“We let some opportunities pass without advancing baserunners or getting them home when in scoring position and this sealed our fate,” USA head coach Ken Solarz said. “Eric pitched an amazing game.”

USA hosts Browerville, Friday.
