Baseball: Weiss, Pierz shut down second-ranked Eden Valley-Watkins

Eden Valley-Watkins (EVW) scored twice in the first, but Pierz junior Cody Weiss shut down the Eagles the rest of the way, leading the Pioneers to a 5-2 win, Monday.
The win clinched a season sweep for Pierz over visiting EVW, which entered the game ranked second in Class A.
Senior Logan Meyer and juniors Jon Fuhrman and Cody Nordmann each had a pair of hits to lead Pierz offensively.
Meyer and Fuhrman both scored a run and Nordmann picked up an RBI.
Junior Nick Lochner added a pair of runs and senior Trent Davis scored once.
Weiss scattered seven hits in the complete-game win, striking out six batters.
Pierz plays a doubleheader at Kimball Area, Thursday.
