Softball: Pierz splits doubleheader with Eden Valley-Watkins

After falling 8-5 in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader, Pierz came back to win the finale 5-3 to earn a split against Eden Valley-Watkins.

In the opening game, juniors Sara Schlegel, Elizabeth Tomala and Miranda Woitalla recorded two hits apiece for the Pioneers and junior Megan Boser homered.

The visiting Eagles took a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning in the second game, but Pierz struck for five runs in the final four innings to pull out the win.

Boser and sophomore Lynn Funk each went 3-for-4 with a run scored and junior Michaela Rocheleau added three hits as Pierz collected 14 hits in the game.

Woitalla added two hits and a pair of runs.

Sophomore Tiara Hopkins went the distance on the mound in each game for Pierz.

Pierz hosts a doubleheader against Kimball Area, Thursday.
