Baseball: Top-ranked Little Falls erases 3-0 deficit against Foley to remain unbeaten
By PATRICK SLACK
Top-ranked Little Falls got off to another slow start in a make-up game Wednesday, as visiting Foley built a 3-0 lead with runs in the second, third and fifth innings.
But the Falcons paid for missing out on opportunities to build an even bigger lead, with two runners caught stealing and another picked off in the first three innings to keep the Flyers within striking distance.
Little Falls took advantage in the bottom of the fifth, tying the score on a two-run double by senior Mitch Gregory and an RBI by senior Joey Hanowski.
With the game still tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh, senior Michael Holthaus led off with a pinch-hit double.
Senior pinch runner Tony Arnold advanced to third on a base hit by Gregory, then came home to score the winning run when junior Collin Eckman dropped a walk-off single into the outfield.
Gregory and Eckman each went 3-for-4 to collect six of the Flyers’ eight hits.
Junior Gabe Ploof allowed only one run in 4 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win.
Little Falls hosts Princeton, Friday.
